Cybercrime activities have escalated in the city as urban residents are left in tears after loosing large sums of money, electronic devices or even the small cents they had in their accounts.
Several people have taken to the media on how they have been conned by masterminds in the streets of Nairobi here in Kenya. Just recently a university comrade, shared her story on Instagram on how she was conned. She says after scratching a card she was made to believe that she had won two phones an expensive one and a fake one. She is then asked to consider be given the fake one and then money would be send to her account to compensate the other phone, forty thousand shillings it was. Oooops! how comes she did not see that red flag! She is then asked to fill her details. Upon doing that the conmen tell her that they have inspected her phone and she does not qualify to receive the forty thousand Kenyan shillings. She then walks away with the fake phone not realising that she had been scammed! Am trying to picture how scared she was when she saw transanctions made from her account that she didn't make. The conmen even went ahead to take some loans on her behalf and transacted the money into their accounts! eei NO MERCY in this streets.
Taking on to another incident that actually happened to me that actually made me laugh. So this guy texts me this text. It says, ' Hey mum my calculator is spoiled and we have an opener exam, send one thousand six hundred and fifty Kenyan Shillings to my teacher Abdi, he is faithful.' The text also shows the number of the teacher i should call. So i made the call made the recording and pretended to be a parent which actually made me laugh at the end. The guy actually opens up at the end and asks me if i can just send him a hundred kenyan shillings.
Third and last , there goes the issue of someone dropping an envelope which they claim to have large sums of cash. The targets are alluded to following the conman to share the money only for them to loose their phones!
Ask me how in the comment section, and if you have been conned share your story too
